Information technology involves the creation, development and registration of IP rights focused on IT as well as licensing software, internet technologies, websites, e-commerce sights and many other rights involved in the creation, use, and development of information technology and computer resources for businesses and individuals. Cliff has been involved in information technology for more than three decades. He has managed his own business through computers and networks for that long. During this time, he has represented some of the world's largest corporations and many entrepreneurs as they worked on developing, patenting, protectingand licensing in and out various information technology rights and products. One such matter involved the first known litigation challenging the use of a domain name that was the same as a registered mark. In another litigation, Cliff successfully represented one of the first known cloud businesses that was to have been hosted by an off-site location.
Licensing and Joint Ventures
Licenses and joint ventures involve the use of business relationships in order to assist in and at times create a business with intellectual property and/or information technology. Cliff has worked for companies throughout the world in connection with licensing and joint ventures of key technologies and computer and internet services for large and small companies from licensing in and licensing out standpoints. Cliff assisted a multinational hotel chain develop an in-room entertainment system through a joint venture, defended a copyright challenge by major motion picture producers regarding distribution in Asia, and helped businesses for which licenses were essential to their future negotiate different terms and resolve international disputes in bet-the-company situations.
